Write a simple sales page

A practical way to use AI for this job in a small business, with a prompt you can copy.

You've got a great service, but the page about it on your website is three lines long and ends with 'Contact us for more info'. Nobody's contacting you.

The job
Write a simple sales page
Tool(s)
ChatGPT or Claude
Time saved
3-4 hours (estimate). My rough estimate, not a measured result.

The prompt

Prompt
Write a one-page sales page for [offer]. Who it's for: [customer]. Problem it solves: [problem]. What's included: [list]. Price: [price]. Common questions: [list]. Include a headline, short intro, benefits, what's included, FAQs and a call to action. No fake urgency or made-up testimonials.

Replace everything in [square brackets] with your own details. Don't paste in anything you wouldn't want stored by the AI provider.

Steps

  1. Gather the facts and real customer questions.
  2. Run the prompt.
  3. Add real photos and real reviews if you have permission.
  4. Publish and test the buy/enquire button.

A worked example

A Toowoomba business coach wants a page for a new six-week program for tradies moving from employee to business owner. She fills in the prompt: who it's for, the problems they face, what's covered each week, price ($1,950 including GST), and what past clients said (real quotes, with permission).

Claude drafts a page with a headline, the problem, what's included, who it's not for, the price, an FAQ and a clear call to action. She trims the hype, adds her photo and puts it live. It took one afternoon instead of the weekend she'd been dreading.

Where it goes wrong

AI loves hype: 'transform your life', 'revolutionary'. Strip it out. It will also happily invent testimonials, statistics and guarantees if you let it. Delete anything you can't back up. Read the page out loud: if it sounds like a late-night infomercial, tone it down.

Time saved

A simple sales page usually takes 3 to 4 hours to write. With AI, plan on 90 minutes to two hours including editing. These are my estimates for a typical small business, not measured results.

What it costs (AUD)

Free plans are fine for one page.

The free plans of ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini handle this fine. If you end up using AI every day, the paid plans are roughly: ChatGPT Plus approx. A$30 a month, Claude Pro approx. A$29 a month billed monthly (US$20, or about A$24 a month if you pay yearly), and Google AI Pro approx. A$33 a month through the App Store. Prices approx., October 2026. Some are billed in US dollars, so your bank may add a foreign transaction fee. Check the vendor's pricing page before you buy.

Australian notes

Show the full price including GST. Only use testimonials that are real and that you have permission to use, and don't edit them to change their meaning. If you're in a regulated field, check your industry's advertising rules (health practitioners, for example, can't use testimonials about clinical outcomes).

Privacy: the Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) cover most businesses turning over more than $3 million, plus some smaller ones such as health providers. Even if you're under the threshold, treat customer details with care: strip names, phone numbers and addresses before you paste anything into an AI tool.

My verdict

Solid first draft. The 'no fake urgency' line keeps it honest.

Common questions

Should I put the price on the page?

Usually, yes. It filters out people who aren't a fit and builds trust.

How long should a sales page be?

Long enough to answer every question a buyer has. For most services, 500 to 1,000 words.

Can AI write testimonials?

No. Never. Fake testimonials are misleading and can breach Australian Consumer Law.
